While this website has grown stale due to my own work commitment, the hamsters in the wheels at Headway headquarters are still spinning!
I recently received an email announcing that BETA 1 of HEADWAY 3.0 is released to those with a developer license. This is pretty huge news. I haven’t been following the release at all this time around, so I am excited to see what Headway will surprise me with!
If you have a developers license head over to Headway and download your copy now. That is exactly what I am about to do.
Of Note, a warning from Headway Developers
- WordPress 3.3 Beta 1 has not been tested with Headway 3.0 Beta 1. However, we will be making sure Headway 3.0 Beta 2 is compatible with WordPress 3.3.
- Please review the list of Known Issues at the bottom of this page.
- This is a beta—not a demo, not a release candidate, and certainly not a final product. This is for testing purposes and for eager users to provide useful feedback.
- Please post all of your beta feedback in the 3.0 Beta Feedback forum.
- Do not use this beta on a live or production website. This is a beta so you must understand that things will probably break or not work at times.
- Headway 3.0 Beta 1 works best with WebKit browsers (Chrome and Safari), but also works well with Firefox. No optimizations have been made for Opera or Internet Explorer yet.
- As of right now, Headway 3.0 will not work with a Headway 2.0 (or earlier website). Nothing terrible will happen, but your work from 2.0 will not carry over. The upgrade mechanism is not in place at this time. Besides, you shouldn’t be using this on an existing site anyway
.
- Beta 1 has no automatic update system. When Beta 2 comes out, you’ll have to download and install it like Beta 1.
- Only developer license holders (or developer upgrades) get access to the betas. Interested in getting access? Upgrade in the dashboard instantly!
The wait is over!
For awhile we were expecting an amazing new Headway 1.7 with a load of great new features. The guys over at Headway decided to take it to the next level though! They jumped right to the new and revolutionary Headway 2.0. To say I am excited would be an understatement.
A couple features that really excite me:
- Automatic Updates from WordPress dashboard
- Columns
- Multisites!
I won’t bother listing all of the dozens of new features because you can check that out on the site: Headway 2.0
If you have a developer’s license, head over to the Headway forums and grab your new 1.7 BETA. This should be used on test sites only, it isn’t ready for your live sites so use at own risk.
A couple sweet changes include:
- Columns
- One touch Search in Nav
- More Exporting Power
- More Leaf Customization
- Auto Upgrade
- MUCH MUCH MORE
In semi related news, Headway also announced that it plays nice with WordPress’s GPL. This is big news because currently one of Headway’s competitors is locked in a public battle with WordPress that might end up going to court.

The Headway theme really does make things super simple for people who are just starting out designing their own blog. While I found it easy to pick up and start using immediately, some people may have a bit more difficulty wrapping their head around it…especially if they haven’t delved into web design before.
Headway is a lot like a video game…anyone can pick it up and start playing right away…but it takes a bit longer to actually master it.
That is why sites like…
…are so great! This site will help you learn a lot of techniques that will be invaluable as you learn to control your own site’s design.
